This is by far my fave Junji Ito story so far! Love that it was a mostly cohesive story from beginning to end rather than a collection of shorts that don't relate to each other. All the different ways spirals were incorporated into the story were really creative and impressive (snails, pottery, hair, cyclones, etc). I felt myself really rooting for Kirie and her friends to escape the spirals before they became possessed like the others, which is the first time I've felt attached to any character in a Junji Ito story. I hope Kirie's brother somehow made it out alive and was reunited with her. I also think about if it's technically considered cannibalism to eat people who become snails?

It wouldn't be a complete review without acknowledging the stunning artwork as always even though some of the really grotesque images are forever burned in my brain.
