Certain Girls
by Jennifer Weiner
An engaging summer read. Alternating between the mom's and the daughter's perspective this book captures the challenges of being and parenting a tween girl in a way that is often witty and humorous. Joy, the daughter, is trying to figure out who she is, her own truth and gain independence. Cannie, her mother, is holding (too) tightly and trying to figure out (again) who she is as her daughter grows and their relationship changes. Their path is complicated by the fact that Cannie is the author of a semi-autobiographical novel which Joy has now read, making her question a lot of elements of her family life.
