How did it end? Did it end?
It was so hard for me to support Eilis through this journey/mid-life crisis. Her approach to relationships and motherhood feels so sterile and clinical, I couldn’t find qualities in her character that had me rooting for her. The depicted fractures that occur during mid life, especially those in marriage, are very real and prevalent, but there was a lack emotion that forced me to be a passive reader. She had every right to be emotional but wasn’t - I wanted more from her.
