A Magic Steeped in Poison
by Judy I. Lin
Seriously can we stop it with the cliffhanger endings. Nothing puts me off a series so certainly as ending the first book on a cliffhanger.
I considered subtracting a star out of pure annoyance and spite, but it was a cool book despite some minor flaws (and the stupid cliffhanger ending). Not sure I’ll read the second, at least not until I’ve forgotten how annoyed I am at cheapening a good story with a cliffhanger ending.
I’ve written ”cliffhanger ending” too many times, but that’s how much I detest it. Just freaking trust your story, worldbuilding, and characters to keep your reader interested without cheap tricks. I will die on this hill.
Anyway, other than that it was a good book, interesting concept of magic, immersive. Was ready to immediately continue with book two, until I got to the last page.
