100 Manga Artists
by Masanao Amano, Julius Wiedemann
informative
fast-paced
This book shows a good variety of manga artists with short descriptions of their careers and popular works. It's pretty helpful as a catalog, but it has some obvious typos, and the selection of manga frames seems strange, as if lewd or fanservicy scenes were purposefully chosen above all else. Also, I assumed the author would pick some of the best works to show off every mangaka, but one of the examples for "Attack on Titan" is an unfinished sketched spread, which doesn't inspire me to trust other examples in this book. After seeing that, if I'm unfamiliar with the mangaka, I can't be sure their work was showcased to me properly. Overall, this is an okay source to browse if you can get it through a library; otherwise, you are better off looking up some lists of popular mangakas on the internet.
