The Will of the Many
by James Islington
9/6/2025 book club
I really enjoyed this book! I thought the concept of Will was really interesting and cool. Thought the society parallels were also interesting and was a cool commentary.
Favorite characters were Lanista and Callius.
Didn't love how the main character was way too Op but after a while I leaned into it and accepted that he was just special and it was more enjoyable (maybe read more young). Also didn't know if the way Will mechanics worked was explained super well. Like they talked all about it and used it and there were many complex ideas but never really shown.
P221 - Octavia who have enough energy to work but not enough to find joy in it
P 280 ish- callidan talk about the pyramid and how academy mimics hierarchy
Eidhin saying that Principalas hinted that he punched Callidus to help him with something - is everyone just kinda using each other to their own agenda?
You think you are working your way up but in fact they are changing you and molding you into what they think you should be
P425 - Relucia says it's the will of the many that continues the Hierarchy. She thinks giving will and contributing to the system is easier than the alternative and hoping they will gain
Heirarchy true power is not in will but ability to distract those who gave it up
Really tense moments
Whole time on suus during their break.
P478- hierarchy built from greed and the weak who willing to do anything to rise. Do you agree?
P478 - iudicium - why they make the students do this pit them against each other
Vis is too OP, sword training, foundation training. Apuli friend
Did you all suspect emissa
Worldbuilding and releasing information slowly
Vis and ulciscors relationship - what do we think about it. Is him running the labyrinth enough to prove that his brother died
Theories of the end or next book?
