The stories by Sara Paretsky and Ian Rankin were both stale and deeply disappointing. Washington calls them "the modern masters." Well, if you start the anthology by reading these "modern masters," you'll soon be tempted to close the book with contempt. The rest of the authors included in this selection were quite predictable. This is above all a very unbalanced anthology.
