The First Ladies by Marie Benedict, Victoria Christopher Murray
4.0
Huge Eleanor Roosevelt fan, but I knew nothing about Mary McLeod Bethune or her contributions to racial equality. This was an easy, engaging read while also being informative and at times shocking regarding the injustices Mrs. Bethune faced. Yet, it was also inspirational due to the friendship between the pair and the changes they were able to push forward as a result, including getting black Americans into government positions, fighting lynching, and expanding New Deal programs to benefit all races and genders. Pretty much everything you want in a historical fiction.
