I watched the movie years ago and absolutely loved the story and message. I bought the book but wasn’t a huge reader at that point so I never picked it up to read it. I decided to finally give it and read and right off the bat I noticed it was told in 3rd person. Most of my DNF’s in 2024 are because the book is told in 3rd person and I normally can’t connect with the characters that way. Being that I knew the story very well I pushed through and I’m so thankful I did. You really find your groove while reading it and not only connect with the main characters but every single side character too. I binged it in one sitting and decided to annotate my old copy and write my thoughts and feelings about it in the margins. I didn’t decide this until a little more into the book so I might go back and annotate the beginning. Caleb made me so unbelievably mad. He expected so much of his wife but didn’t put in the same effort for her. If this was my first time reading this story I’m pretty sure I would have been YELLING at Caleb within my annotations more than I already was. I’m not saying Catherine didn’t have her wrong doings. She made some not so good choices and honestly shut her husband out (even if it was for good reason). I kept saying “ communicate” while reading this book. It seemed they talked to everyone else except for each other. My husband and I  have had our own struggles within our marriage and both of our choices and actions honestly stunk. We’ve been married for 19 years and learned so much from it and grew not only as a couple but as individuals. Caleb and Catherine did the same but through God which is absolutely beautiful. This story is one of my absolute favorites and will be one I re read again and again.
