Sometimes I am VERY bad at reading sci-fi because I simply can't keep up. I always feel like a ding dong (I'm sure that's a scientific term).

However, I loved this book. Andy Weir made it work, and I began to love the main character in this - Dr. Ryland Grace, who is set on helping Earth face a potential ice age/apocalypse.

I went into this book with very little knowledge about it. I learned to find Dr. Grace funny (in a corny way that still made me chuckle) as he is by himself in space, forgetting who he is and what he is supposed to be doing after spending time in an induced coma. I have heard that his character is similar to Mark Watney in The Martian. I haven't read it, so I went into this book with minimal expectations. It's likely why I am not bothered by the similar character development in the two Andy Weir novels.

There was a lot of science and even an incredible friendship story, and all-in-all, I was immersed and waiting to see what would happen. There was a bit of a twist in the book as well. Plus, I enjoyed the present-day timeline and the flashbacks of Dr. Grace's memories coming back.

I do feel that sometimes there were some stereotypes perpetuated, but I just fell in love with this book and its premise. Rocky was such an amazing character.

I was truly immersed in the plot, world-building, and Dr. Grace's dry and weird humor. It was such a fun read, and I had trouble putting it down.
