Not Bad for a Girl by Anastasia Ryan
2.5
reflective fast-paced

This gets really preach-y. While I agree with the message behind the soap boxes, the book is not well-written enough for the plot to hold its own against the feminist message.

The plot is also majorly confusing. This book is sold as a romance, and I don’t think it is. There is a romance in it, but the majority of the book follows Ana’s career issues. The romance is at best supplementary and in no way central to the story. The romance is also pretty boring. Shane is incredibly sweet and kind towards Ana, but he has no personality or identity beyond his job and interest in her. He spends a lot of time entertaining Ana’s love of fish and all things aquatic, but we never learn any of his hobbies or interests. The whole book (but especially Shane) feels flat and formulaic.

If the love story is good, I typically don’t mind clean romance. This book though, had a boring romance with no sex scenes and a few mediocre kisses.

Overall underwhelming. The book did hold my attention, bust also did nothing to impress me.
