The book was okaaay. I really wanted to like this but I found the characters to be rather flat. I didn’t feel there was much depth or growth throughout the story, and felt I was following along Kanes as an apathetic bystander. Dana was probably the most interesting character since she stood out from Kanes other prison friends. But the conflicts felt juvenile and needed more exploring. Winnie was a great character but for them to be declaring themselves family by the end?? I wanna SEE their relationship grown and strengthen, not just be TOLD their relationship is growing.
I think this book could have used another 100 pages and a better editor. I found at least 3 misspellings on my kindle version. The way any editor would allow that is beyond me. Book has great potential but it felt like a YA book but it’s very obviously not YA considering the content and trigger warnings.
An easy, quick read overall. I enjoyed it and will probably read the next one eventually but I’m in no hurry.
