It is so hard to continue to generate consistent and coherent identity that is needed to sustain the"detective series" genre without overdoing it. This IQ book is a slight fall off from the original. The stories are more extreme and thus less credible. The work is interesting because the author has a believable "cred" when writing about the mores of the gangs and other denizens of the Southern California (and neighboring regions) rough world. But this book pushes to package closer to stereo-typing and even ethnic/racist thoughts. But one gives the writer points for humanizing people living in adverse situations while he also criticizes their failure to reflect on the lives they adopt. So I will read the next iteration of the story and hope for better things.
