Foreign Fruit by Jojo Moyes

3.0

Well, I am now a Jojo Moyes completist, at least for books written to date. Finally worked my way through the back catalog of books. Just wish that this one was better. Granted I think it was her second novel so I guess she was still finding her way.

This ranks somewhere between 2-3 stars for me. I’m learning towards three because even though a good portion of the plot is idiotic, I still liked most of the characters and felt compelled to keep reading even though it was easy to see how it would turn out.

The earlier story set in the 1950’s is where I struggled the most: a character falling in love at first sight (hate that), messy direction, and some obvious turns. I think we are supposed to feel sympathetic towards Lottie but it was hard to do.

The portion set in the 2000’s was better though it felt like it was relying on a lot of stereotypes.
