I've always wanted to read Wuthering Heights, but I was wary of it because I've always struggled with the prose of older books. Im so glad I was finally influenced to read it. The prose was actually very modern and easy to understand and engage with, which was a big surprise for me.
It was an incredibly compelling story about trauma, grief, and the cycle of abuse. It's crazy to me how well Emily Bronte seemed to understand human nature. Every character in this book was completely unlikeable, yet empathetic. Being a pretty slow book, I did get bored in some parts, but I was super enthralled for most of the book and had a hard time putting it down.
The setting of this book is so interesting, because it is such an isolated place that the people living in it are hard to see as normal people, they live in such a different world and only meet a handful of people over the course of their entire lives.
With how dreary and unhappy the whole book was, I was nervous about how it would end, but I think it was quite a perfect ending. I think I read the last paragraph of the book like 10 times in a row because it was just that lovely. I'm definitely inspired to read more books from this era now.
