Me & Emma by Elizabeth Flock
4.0

The twist at the end of Me & Emma reminded me of The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian. However, I think Me & Emma is a much better novel than the Double Bind. I can't say that I really enjoyed Me & Emma, because the entire book was heartwrenching. This book shows how easily children can slip through the cracks, especially when the immediate family is unwilling to help. There really wasn't a happy moment in the book & the ending just killed me. My only beef with the book is that I think it might have worked better as a short story rather than a novel. There was quite a bit of filler that could have been edited out. Besides that, I am glad I read Me & Emma. I just wish I could take Carrie home with me & get her the help she needs.
