The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend
by Kody Keplinger
This book centers around Bianca Piper, a relatively popular kid with a group of atrractive female friends whose perception of herself is turned upside down when a popular player, Wesley tells her she’s the “DUFF." This stands for Designated Ugly Fat Friend.
Despite his hurtful label, Wesley and Bianca begin a sexual relationship that might be turning into more and Bianca sets off on a journey of self-exploration that culminates in the realization that everyone considers themselves the DUFF at one time of the other, regardless of looks or weight.
I thought this book was going to be a really silly book based on the title, but it was good. The main character was funny and smart and the book does not hesitate to address issues (alcoholism, teen sex, etc.) in a realistic way. It kept me engaged and I quite enjoyed it.
