It’s hard to not give this book five stars. Re-reading it has solidified its place in my top five classic books, and maybe even top five overall books.

Jane Eyre, the titular character, is so human and relatable, and reading about her journey through life is incredibly emotional and gut wrenching in parts.

She experiences loss, grief and hardship, but also makes lasting friendships and finds real love on the way. The earlier part of the story, set at Gateshead and Lowood, were my favourite, but I also enjoyed reading about her time as a governess and beyond.

Mr Rochester’s character is morally complex and downright unlikeable at points. I would love to know more about his and Bertha’s past.

There are strong feminist themes within the book, with Jane’s character being independent and free willed, and almost (!) intellectually equal to Mr Rochester.

This book will always stand the test of time, and I cannot recommend it enough.
