Hugo & Rose by Bridget Foley

I wanted to read this in one day but I had to sleep... it was SO good, so weird and interesting and funny and sad and beautiful. It was one of those books you can't stop reading, but also feel really sad when it's over because you miss it, and you wish you'd taken the time to savor it instead of gulping it down. I love Rose's observations about being a mother, they are so real and honest, the things that you think but don't always say, and I love the descriptions of her dreams. The island has this feeling of rightness and beauty and innocent fantasy that you get so often in children's books, but that you almost never see in books for adults. The mix of that innocence with the realism was a great juxtaposition and added a lot to the story (which already has so much going for it). Highly recommended.
