Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

For a debut, this was fine but that's all it was. I found myself more annoyed than anything throughout a lot of it so I can't rate it very highly.

I'll talk about the things I liked first... part one was cute. I enjoyed seeing the beginning of their relationship and I think it was important to understand their dynamic before catching up to the present, so I appreciated that their story was delved into and thoroughly explained.

Another thing I loved, was Jackson. That man may not be her soulmate but he is mine and I cannot wait to read his book. He's literally the sweetest man to ever exist and I felt so bad for him throughout this entire book. The man really needed a hug.

Onto the things I disliked... Chase's overall behavior. I am proud that he got therapy in his adult life and finally worked through his trauma but I still feel like he wasn't as mature as he should've been. The fact that he was still in a multi-year committed relationship for so long after he got back to Sugarlake even though he was so distracted by Alina. This man literally abandons her to rescue Alina... which is okay, I guess because Alina is our FMC but it's still a shitty thing to do.

I did like how he was there for Alina with her dad, but I also feel like it's unfair to say that when she didn't give anyone else in her life the same opportunity.

Also, I love the teases for the rest of the series but there was so much happening in the background of this that I honestly was more invested in side plots than the main one.

Again, for a debut, it wasn't bad by any means but it definitely felt a bit immature
