Multiple perspective historical fiction about the diverse characters in a small Pennsylvanian town that builds to a satisfying ending. Definitely some dark/difficult topics are touched, including institutionalization, blatant racism and antisemitism, and (mostly brief or “off-screen”) incidents of violence. However, it is ultimately a story about community coming together, despite their personal histories, personalities, and all the others reasons they have not to. It’s the first novel I’ve read by this author but looking forward to more!
Moderate: Ableism, Racial slurs, Racism, Forced institutionalization, Antisemitism, Classism
Minor: Rape, Sexual assault, Excrement, Vomit, Injury/Injury detail
