This was very much a, “I wish I’d read this in a literature course so someone could tell me what the heck is going on” type read. While poetic, the writing is very dense and I found myself getting bogged down in it. And whenever the doctor got involved, I very much began losing whatever plot exists and I wondered how intentional that was.
Whenever I did get a foothold of what was going on, I felt very engaged. There were also phrases and exchanges of conversation that really stuck out to me. To say this is a novel of its time is the truth, as demonstrated by some of the language. I was glad to see a mutual feeling among reviews because I was starting to think I’d lost all intelligence with the challenges I was having.
