Hill House Living: The Art of Creating a Joyful Life by Paula Sutton

hopeful informative inspiring lighthearted slow-paced

5.0

Absolutely delightful -- As Paula wrote, "...I'd like you to see this book as your spoonful of sugar. It won't make all of your trouble miraculously disappear, but hopefully you might find a few incentives here to help distract your mind from a few of them." I see myself picking this book up throughout the year, especially at the start of a season, to get completely in the mood to bring any beauty I can to each moment.

It reads like a blog post which is really comforting if you love turning to blogs for a bit of a chat, and I find myself copying down so many quotes as inspiration. A couple of my favorites:

Changing your life and leaping into the unknown is an optimistic pursuit, but so is staying put and making the most of what you already have.

It's about trusting your instincts and being willing to be drawn to the things that appeal to your senses first and your logic later.

A little injection of prettiness can often be just the tonic for a tired soul.

It seems to be written to be picked up and put down and would make for an excellent gift for anyone who needs a little injection of joy, kindness, and beauty in their life. I loved how Paula shared how she uses vintage, everyday styling, and simplicity to bring a sense of joy to her life even in tumultuous times, and I can't wait to make some of these recipes.
