Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

3.0

It’s hard to articulate why I didn’t rate this higher, but it was a drag to read in the middle and the multiple POVs became tedious. I almost quit around 33%. I started to enjoy it again around 65%.

Overall I’m glad I finished it because the resolution was satisfying. I love this duology for Kaz’s ridiculously genius schemes, and his brain carries the plot across the finish line.

The middle was a struggle because I could not care less about the character development for the side characters. There’s so many schemes building up to the final scheme, but it was excessive. She could’ve cut out some filler scenes.

3 stars because each plot point on its own is a banger, but somehow when it’s all strung together, it was laborious to keep reading.

I really wanted to like it, but I needed more Kaz and Inej, especially more Kaz. He’s the star of the show.
