She's Dating the Gangster by Bianca B. Bernardino

4.0

From MY 14-15 year old perspective, I'm giving this 3.5-4/5 stars generously
*Includes my review on books by most Filipino wattpad authors. TL;DR at the bottom.
(I wouldn't consider it as a book though!)

I have read the unpublished version through wattpad years back, and I enjoyed it then. I still like it now. But not as much as I did before. I read it for my leisure, as a few friends of mine suggested that I should give it a go. It was the first story I have ever read at that site.

Looking back from now, I remember squealing because of different scenes from this book, with the kilig feeling, and the like. But if I were to review this critically... Remembering how the writing style was done, I didn't like it. There were too many emoticons, a lot of things were capitalized, and the excess punctuation marks make me feel...eh? I never expected this book to be published. I know it made a huge success in the internet community (candymag/wattpad), but I don't think it's enough for the real world. The publishing world. It was written unprofessionally, so I didn't really think it would be published. I never thought that any of the wattpad books I have read will be published. It's just not meant to be. They're corny, and they're made for the internet. Except for some. I guess. Most wattpad books are unoriginal. Most of them got their concepts from other stories, which really really sucks. It's like you're reading the same story again. It reminds me of fan fiction, most stories in wattpad are fan fiction. And I don't think that fan fiction should be published *ehem 50 Shades*. It should be remained in the internet. I know I sound so cruel with what I'm saying, but it's just a thought that came to my mind. Just now. But then again, I'm not generalizing this. Some wattpad stories are actually pretty good, and original. (eg. the Until trilogy by Jonaxx seems pretty unique to me)

Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. (I have said this a lot of times already, I know). It was cliché, but I loved cliché. It had a Korean feel, I loved korean drama/feels. I remember almost every detail clearly. With Kenji, Athena, the other Athena, Lucas (of course), and the like.
I know a movie adaptation starring Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo already came out, but I don't think I'll be watching the film anytime soon. (I find this love team very overrated, and I have never really watched anything from this two. I never plan to do so.) I really find Filipino movies corny (though I have watched and enjoyed some. But I know I can count how many with my fingers). This is by far my favorite wattpad book. It made me shed tears, I really felt mentally unstable.

I'm rating this BASED on how I enjoyed it when I read it for the first time. I know people who read/write in wattpad would be very much offended with this post. I am unbiased with my standing. If I were to read this when I'm older, I would probably rate this very much lower.

TL;DR - Liked the (cliché-korean feel)story, not the writing style.
Not all wattpad books are written like this. Just so you guys know. There are some books that were well written, and so, I am not generalizing this post to all wattpad books. Most of what I am pertaining to, refers to the Filipino made books.

Honesty IS the best policy, right?
