1st Review:

I saw someone describe this book as a dark rom-com between two serial killers, and I knew immediately that I had to read it.  One of my favorite non-fantasy series is the Necessary Evils series by Onley James which which in short is about psychopathic killers and the men they fall for but the reason I love that series so much is because it has this wonderfully fun balance of humor, dark and demented content, and of course smut.  I was really hoping that this book would be similar in that vein in that it would have great balance of humor and dementednes that can be really fun to read and for the most part it did deliver on those aspects.  It was a super fun read, but for me, while their were aspects that I really enjoyed, it wasn't perfect.  I really love the moments of Rowan and Sloane together, from their very first meeting, their interactions are great.  I like how they are both killers, but they only kill really bad people like other serial killers and how they decide to make a competition out of it.  Sometimes, I felt like the pacing of the book was a bit awkward because it continuously jumps from one year to the next, but I guess for the story, it kind of makes sense.  I think there were some smutty scenes that were a bit much for my taste (like I can get behind a lot of stuff but him spitting in her mouth is going to be a hard no for me).  Also, I have to say at first that while reading the book, I was thinking that it wasn't as dark as I was expecting, but I shouldn't have let the beginning let me get too comfortable.  There was a scene towards the end of the book that I actually had a bit of a hard time reading because it kind of made me squeamish and I think I've read a decent amount of books that contain darker content but the scene with the mandolin slicer, that was definitely a new one for me.  But I still really enjoyed the book. It was a fun ride while reading it, and I'm really excited for what's to come in the next books about Rowan's brothers.  I just really love mix of humor with dark content plus smut, and I definitely have to find more books that feature this similar type of content because they are so exciting and just plain fun to read.

 2nd Review:

This is the second time I've read this book, and I think I may have enjoyed it even more the second time around.  I absolutely enjoy the vibe of this book. It's a dark rom-com, and it was so much fun to read.  It's a romance book between two serial killers (don't worry, they only kill bad people) who happens to meet after going after the same victim.  They then start a yearly competition to take out new victims, and along the way, they get to know each other and fall in love.  I really like that the author balances the dark and demented aspects of the book with a lot of humor, which makes it a super fun read.  I really like Rowan's character. He's pretty much an obsessed, psycho, golden retriever type character, and I love that about him.  The first time I read the book, I did think that some of the sex scenes were a bit out of my comfort zone, but I didn't mind them as much this time around.  All in all, it's a super fun read, and I really hope I find more books like it in the future because I enjoy this type of book so much.
