A Pocket Full of Rye by Agatha Christie
4.0

The mystery of this one is so good. Intricate with subtle clues. Not enough Miss Marple in it though, but I really liked the main detective. I like when they’re smart (though not quiiiite as smart as Miss Marple) and when they take Miss Marple seriously. In the TV show they tend to make them annoyed with her, or outright dismissive, until she proves her worth, but I like that the book just ignores all that and carried on with the mystery—they’ve all heard about her at Scotland Yard at this point, which makes me smile.

This is the 4th Marple book I listen to (this time read by Richard E. Grant!) and I’m really building a greater appreciation of her character (which I didn’t think possible since I love the TV show so much). It’s interesting to have such an old, inoffensive looking lady who always thinks and expects the worse out of people. And she is usually right.
