Waiting for Normal by Leslie Connor

4.0

Addie lives with her mom in a trailer. Her sisters live with her ex-stepfather. Her grandfather lives on a farm, but she never sees him. Her best friends work at the cornor minimart. This book is a year in her life, dealing with a deadbeat mom, a good dad who isn't her dad, stolen flutes, turkey soup, and cancer. Really, this has sufficient tragedy for 4 novels stuffed into it. But it remains (along with the protagonist) upbeat no matter what. An interesting melodrama for teens.
