Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune

4.0

Meet Me At The Lake is sweet more than it is anything else. Fortune allows her characters to grow and change, as well as make mistakes. The chemistry between the love interests is realistic and well developed over their past day together, and the tension and sweetness between their older, more adult versions is well articulated, too. The fault that I find in Will’s struggle to be vulnerable and open I forgive due to his respect for Fern’s boundaries. The issue I take with Fern’s initial flaming reaction to a choice of Will’s is made up for by her expert handling of their later reconciliation. Annabel, too, has a scene which sells her for me, fully. Cute and believable, Meet Me At The Lake meets all the requirements for an easy beach read that incites only few, if any, eye rolls.
