i don’t know what to say…. this was such a nothingburger of a book. i’m really disappointed because i really wanted to like it but there’s just no… substance? suspense? ANYTHING remotely scary? a single dredge of dread that you’d expect from a horror novel?
i am in disbelief that this book is hailed as one of the greatest, scariest horror novels of all time. SERIOUSLY?????
the ending was decent, but not good enough to make up for the absolute bore that was the rest of the book. with each chapter i kept telling myself that surely it’ll get better but it never did.
i did like the writing style, and the characters kind of grew on me (keyword kind of), but that’s the only positive thing i can say.
anyway…. i heard good things about the netflix show. might give that a watch
