A Poem for Every Winter Day
by Allie Esiri
lighthearted
reflective
relaxing
I decided to try and read two poems a day during winter thanks to this beautiful collection and I have really enjoyed reading them. I am not really a poetry reader these days so it was great to dabble in a couple a day. Some I preferred more than others, I seemed to enjoy the older poems by the likes of Emily Dickinson, Charlotte Bronte and Edgar Allan Poe the most. There were some which I just found quite dull so it was a mixed bunch! Of course it has to account for everyone’s different tastes.
There is a poem for the morning and one at night which I really liked alongside short introductions before each one telling you the back story to them or their meaning. On specific days like Valentine’s Day and Christmas Day there are themed poems for which I absolutely loved.
I definitely recommend a collection like this if you would like to give poetry a go as these tend to be quite short poems with the odd exception of a lengthy one every now and then.
I might treat myself to others for the other seasons of the year at some point too!
