Never Kiss Your Roommate by Philline Harms

that I found this book in a pile on a sidewalk was cosmic foreshadowing of how reading it would go.
this made me feel icky with its representation of noelle, one of two Black characters, and use of stereotypes in its depiction of a pansexual character. I’m only hesitant to slam it because I know the author was fifteen or sixteen when she started writing it and also from germany. the german part is largely irrelevant except to say that I understand that the experience of Black americans likely hugely differs from anything she’s witnessed there. I do think it’s an earnestly queer novel and I understand the feelings that were communicated through it. the panic you feel when you begin to know yourself and discover your queerness is terrifying at times. like many romance books, it is what it says it is.
my harry potter fanfiction was better though
