My favorite royal couple is back! Lilly Campbell always rambunctious, energetic, sassy, and still a little bit of that troublemaker I know and love. Keller Fitzwilliam was still a man in charge both in and out of the bedroom, and very much in love/ obsessed with Lilly. This sequel was all about Lilly and Keller’s relationship, but specifically there road down the aisle. With so much planning to do and also trying to make sure Lilly did all her royal duties, it was a lot, but as long as Lilly and Keller had each other they’d be fine… or so they thought.
For Lilly and Keller to finally being engaged and well on their way to getting married, it was exciting and a joyful occasion not only for them, but also for the whole country. You would think that it’d be a fairly easy thing to plan a wedding, but the fact that it was a royal wedding with their heir to the throne, it was a big affair that had a lot of planning and meaning behind it. Through it, Lilly was still her laughable funny self, always babbling and at times saying the most inappropriate things at the most unconventional times, which led to Keller feeling out of sorts and somewhat frustrated with her beloved fiancé. Nonetheless, Lilly and Keller were happy to get married and just wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, granted they had a lot more responsibilities from not just getting married, but also premarital classes, opening up more about each other, and revealing some things about one another they didn’t expect to learn about.
To say tensions were high would be sufficient to say. You would think that with all that Keller and Lilly had overcome in the first book, it’d be a happy sailing, but oh no, things were far from over especially when considering both outside forces and within Keller and Lilly’s relationship. From the threats being sent targeting Keller and Lilly, to issues being brought up between Lilly and Keller, it wasn’t the same “happy go lucky” vibe like the first book. Keller had a lot more that he was keeping to himself and with his lack of trust in others, he didn’t like to divulge his personal details. Lilly and specific people in Keller’s life were the only few who knew him personal details about him, and yet it seemed like Keller’s resistance to dig up his past, caused some lack of trust and some issues between him and Lilly. Lilly on the other hand was an open book, after all she was talkative and let her thoughts known… I mean in great detail haha. Keller and Lilly had their work cut out for them, but all the way through Keller had to overcome his own problems and be willing to open up in order to let Lilly deeper in than he initially did.
Meghan wasn’t kidding when she said this book was going to be a bit more suspenseful! Omg! Not only did Lilly and Keller have to deal with the madness surrounding their wedding, but with the threat/ eminent threat towards them, it was all hands on deck to ensure they were safe… until they weren’t! The thing I liked about the suspense part of the story that it gradually built up to something, and with certain things happening it definitely had me a bit on edge. Again, I knew there was going to be more at stake in this story, but I wasn’t expecting it to go the way that it did! The whole time, it felt like a rollercoaster with the twists and turns, and the occasional bumpy ride had me glued to the story!
Don’t get me wrong, I love me some spice in my books, but what I really found interesting in this story specifically was the sexual intimacy between Keller and Lilly. A big part of their relationship had always been their sexual chemistry being off the charts, and while it was always sexy and passionate, it was brought to their attention (during premarital classes) that maybe they leaned to much on their sexual intimacy. That’s not to say that Keller and Lilly weren’t compatible when taking sex out of the equation, but it did make Keller and Lilly reevaluate how they were in their relationship when it came to arguments and how they dealt with disagreements that ended in yelling and most likely sex. Yes, there was still some of that fantastic spice in this book, but also Keller and Lilly recognizing that sex wasn’t the main component of why they were together or how they were compatible, sex was just an extension of how they physically showed their love for one another, nothing wrong about that. As the book got deeper into the main plot line, I did like seeing Keller and Lilly focus on other aspects of their relationship and communicating even more about the things that went wrong between them, and overall being more open in a way that was different from the first book.
Just when I thought this story was over, Meghan surprised us all with this sequel that was filled with that sense of humor, spice, romance, heartfelt moments, and more that Meghan is known for executing every time! Lilly and Keller’s story was taken into a whole new direction that saw them being put through the wringer, facing off against imminent danger, more responsibilities, and insecurities within their relationship. I really enjoyed the suspense part of the story, the way it led up to the big reveal of who was behind everything was kind of shocking and made for a dramatic moment towards the end. Lilly and Keller, my goodness, my heart broke for them throughout the story! From all that they endured, I’m sure they suffered a lot, and phew it was an emotional rollercoaster! So much happened within the story, but it didn’t feel overwhelming at all, it all flowed into the storyline, and I was fully in it! Meghan brought Lilly and Keller’s story to a satisfying end. With all the obstacles they overcame, Lilly and Keller managed to work on their communication, and also working on strengthening their relationship. I can gladly say, I am so happy to see the way Lilly and Keller finally got to have their happy ending (especially with all the stuff they went through! It wasn’t an easy road!) The ending had me tearing up a bit, and with the epilogue it further made me smile, happy seeing Lilly and Keller together, and of course well on their way to celebrating all the great joys in their future!
