White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky
3.5
emotional medium-paced

Upon starting the book, I immediately did not like the protagonist. The way he carried himself screamed ‘stalker’ and then the reveal of the age difference! He also produces a very long, (mostly) boring monologue in chapter 2. He barely leaves the girl any room to speak, so you wonder, is this why you’re so friendless? However in his monologue, he does say some beautiful things, and perfectly words life, longing for companionship and the desire to flourish.

Nastenka is a lovely, sweet character. I love her backstory. She does use him a bit towards the end, but I don’t care because the main character is a weirdo. I’m glad she got with who she got with.
