The Best of Friends by Lucinda Berry
emotional
sad
medium-paced
4.25
Initially I chose 3.75 stars, but after writing my review I went back and adjusted up.
*No spoilers until the end list with potential warnings*
A slow starter for me, and there were times I caught myself tuning out and having to go back and reread parts. That being said, the story was worth going back and rereading what I tuned out, and the finish was strong. I had theories throughout, some were accurate, some were not.
I found myself tearing up at places, and this automatically gave the book a higher rating for me. It takes a LOT to evoke physical emotions from me.
I took a long break between my first Lucinda Berry book, If You Tell A Lie, because I honestly disliked it quite a bit. The Best of Friends was redeeming, and I’ll try another Lucinda Berry book in the future.
*Possible spoilers below *
Potential triggers:
Child death
Self harm
Domestic abuse (verbal and emotional)
One instance of potential child abuse
Marital strife
Grief
End of life care
Reference of drugs and alcohol
