What an ending! The Fall of Koli by M.R. Carey is the finale to the trilogy, and in my eyes a brilliant conclusion.

As so often Carey manages to take a pretty well trodden idea, and makes it totally his own.
I simply adore how he manages to insert so many thought provoking and meaningful concepts that make you re-evaluate your own thoughts. Yet he does it in a subtle way. Never heavy handed, or in a way that feels like a lecture. Questions about society and humanity are posed as a smooth and natural part of the story.

His prose manages to convey so much, while it remains effective and fluent without ever becoming pretentious. It carries the story, but never overshadows it.

It's seriously my favourite thing about all of his books - the small scale you see, yet big concepts you feel behind it all.

We get Koli's Pov as well as Spinner's, and even a third one I enjoyed a hell of a lot. We get an ending that leaves enough open to feel realistic, but also closes all the important plot strands satisfyingly, and I am absolutely happy with it.
