i don’t know how many times i’ve read this book, but it repeatedly changes me. one part memoir, mostly examination of church = activism = radical love / compassion. begins with shane’s experience as a young “born again” evangelical, and the moment he, as a college student, discovers homeless families about to be forcibly kicked out of a long abandoned abandoned church. the unjust irony was striking and triggered his lifelong dedication to living with radical love and generosity in the name of Jesus. i read armed with a pen. it never fails to challenge and inspire me.
