A Pho Love Story by Loan Le

funny hopeful lighthearted fast-paced

4.5

This YA romance was a very cute, light read for me and I am so glad I listened to it on audio. The chapters switch POV's between Bao and Linh, two Vietnamese teens who go to the same high school, and whose parents own rival restaurants. As the story goes on, a reader gets to explore Bao's and Linh's identity struggles, especially given they are both children of immigrants trying to follow their parents' ideals while also trying to make their own dreams. This book involved themes of identity, family, xenophobia, love, and friendship. I will definitely be revisiting this book in the future. It was just what I needed to feel happy and gushy. I don't think the book felt cheesy in a way some romances might be. I honestly felt like I related more to Bao's character in the sense that he was overthinking everything and did not know what direction he wanted to go in life, for at least the beginning part of the novel. I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up, and that's ok! If y'all haven't yet, please go read this one! Highly recommend the audio.
