I can see why it's a classic, Jane Austen's sense of human nature is spot on and very interesting to see revealed. But that's the main draw of the book. The guy who said the entire thing is just people going to each other's houses was right. Nothing actually occurs in the novel. It's 300+ pages of literally nothing but interpersonal drama. The drama itself is interesting because it's fascinating to see people 200 years ago act and think exactly like people do today. Everyone knows a Lydia, everyone knows a Lady Catherine. But it felt like a slog to get through sometimes. It was a lot of hours to spend on people sitting around the house talking to each other in formal regency language with nothing to interrupt it but the arrival of letters from other houses.
Graphic: Sexism, Toxic relationship, Classism
