A Lady's Guide to Scandal by Sophie Irwin
4.0

I thought that this was a very solid second book from the author. I loved the entertaining side characters and the background and depth provided to the main characters is clearly due to research which provides a rich texture.
I really appreciate that this is a romance which involves love (past nostalgic and melancholy and fresh built with wit and appreciation) rather than lust. The relationships are sketched and then grown skilfully as the main character has her fits and starts in trying to finally discover her spine after being entirely smothered by family obligation and societal mores. I also appreciate how those same points are true stumbling blocks that have to be manoeuvred and battled with - love does not smooth everything over here; it is not a magical panacea but it does provide for a very hopeful ending.
