The Knowing by Tanya Talaga

3.0

Having read The Seven Fallen Feathers, I expected a very emotive account and was not disappointed.

It is evident that Tanya has meticulously researched the very sensitive and less well-known history of the indigenous peoples, especially the brutal treatment meted out to the most vulnerable - women and children. Historically revered Canadians and other personalities are exposed for the hypocritical savages some of them - like Simpson - were.

A journalist and raconteur par excellence, Tanya could have avoided repetitions and abridged this account. Stories meander and personalities keep popping up; while all these are undoubtedly very personal and deeply meaningful to the author, this reader was confused and started to lose the narrative.

My low rating is only on account of the author not being able to hold this reader's interest.
