‘He’s unnatural,’ I said. ‘There’s something about him … Don’t think me fanciful, but it gives me a nasty little sensation, a tightening of my muscles, when he comes near me. It’s a touch … of the diabolical, in fact.’

I enjoyed reading this book. The story was extremely interesting but the animal cruelty was a bit much for me. The story is pretty straightforward and I can see why it was groundbreaking, I can definitely see a lot of what are now modern tropes taking early shape here.
