Disney After Dark by Ridley Pearson
4.0

When I first heard about this book, I was extremely excited about it due to my huge obsession with anything Disney. I will be honest, although I enjoyed this book immensely, it did not live up to all my expectations, and I would not consider this book a five star read. Close to it, but not quite.

With that said, I would still like to praise it. I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries, Disney, and something to keep you thinking. I found myself on the edge of my seat through this read, trying to solve the mystery in my own head before I actually finished the book.

And to add, the amazing thing about this book is that it literally has EVERYTHING in it! It can not even be put into one category. Is it fantasy? Yes. Is it mystery? Definitely. Is it science fiction? Absolutely. Is it romance? Of course! Is there anything this book is not? Nope! If someone were to ask me about this book, I'd probably be able to spend countless hours explaining every detail and attribute it contains. Quite wonderful, indeed.

Now, onto the basis of the book. It really has a creative, intriguing plot. Five young teenagers; Finn, Willa, Philby, Charlene, and Maybeck are introduced in a most unique way. They had auditioned to become Disney Hosts, using hologram imaging to put them in the park and guide guests through the magic that is Disney. No history together, no previous meetings, just five complete strangers that are joined together in the strangest way possible. Not only that, but once they get the job, they're thrown into a fantastic world of magic and riddles, where they must work together to fight the unbelievable forces that are working against Disney itself. And with power, comes desire. Not only are the parks in danger, but potentially the entire world, thrown into the hands of five teenagers who have just about NO idea what they're doing!

Come on, is that totally awesome or what?

And what's even better; you get a front seat onto the ride itself!

Really, who wouldn't want to read that?

Let's not forget all the surprises that come these kids' way! The blooming romance, the sudden being wanted by some of the scariest Disney villains out there, the skills necessary to even have a chance at winning this fight. It's all just so much to handle!

(A warning: I'm a crazed Disney fanatic and pure hopeless romantic) so before I go all fangirl on everyone, let me prepare you all for the few slight disappointments.

Despite the pure greatness of this book, I don't want to hype it up TOO much, since I don't want to be the cause of anyone's major disappointment... Although this shouldn't really matter too much since there's just so much to love and so little to hate.

For one, there isn't a lot of character development in this beginning book. Don't get me wrong, there is enough to actually care about the characters and still understand them, but there isn't much more than that. I can assure you though, that the next book in the series and so on definitely fixes that up.

The next thing: Maleficent. I didn't really understand the whole ice thing, you know, the dropping 40 degrees whenever she enters a room and the frost path she tends to leave, since it seems to be the quite opposite in Sleeping Beauty. It didn't bother me as much as it has bothered others from what I've heard, since it actually went along quite well with the rest of the story, and helped the flow and detail of the plot, but this is just a minor warning for all of you who might end up more bothered by it than I was.

Otherwise, really, the book's pretty freaking magnificent. There's really no reason why you shouldn't at least pick it up and give it a shot. I'm pretty positive that you'll end up loving it.
