I read this book because it was recommended by a friend who reads far more books in a year than I do. It is a fictional tale that incorporates a warm love story within the main adventure. There is magic in the land and spirits who both help and hinder the progress of the story. I enjoyed how these elements of fantasy were interwoven into the lives of each character as if life naturally transpired following the laws of mythical magic. It is a long book and only one of two. It does leave you hanging just a bit at the end, wanting to know what happens next.
