I wanted to love this book but in the end I felt let down by such a good concept.
The Good
The Good
- Diverse characters
- LGBTQ+
- Took place 200 after Cinderella
- The fairy godmother
- The true story of Cinderella
- Admitting that with a world like this it would be hard to change, no easy fix
The Bad
- Insta-love
- Characters introduced then disappear
- Characters not living up to potential (Luke specifically)
- The twist with the fairy godmother's relationship to the king (wasn't needed)
- Lack of subtly
- No reason for Manford to be the way he is
- It was all tell and no shows
- Magic was simply convenient to the plot and not really built into the world
- The end made it seem like a simple fix
Graphic: Misogyny
Moderate: Domestic abuse, Homophobia, and Gaslighting
