1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die by Peter Boxall

4.0

I gave this to my mother as a Christmas present and we enjoyed it so much she got me my own copy. Although neither of us has any intention of reading all these books before we die, or in another life completely, it's a great list, even if you take issue with some of the selections and/or omissions. It's not a bible, just an well-read person's long list.
I put a number of the books in here on my to-read list: some were great ([b:The Birds|903205|The Birds (Peter Owen Modern Classics)|Tarjei Vesaas|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1179322065s/903205.jpg|887838]) and some were clunkers ("The Diary of a Country Priest," "The Reluctant Fundamentalist"); most are still to-read.
My biggest complaint would be it's ill-advised to put books on a list like this that were written in the last decade, since many won't stand the proverbial test of time. But here they are.
Very attractive book, too, nicely put together. The pictures are terrific and in general "list people" will love it.
If I practiced "bathroom books," this would be among them.
