The Count of Monte Cristo
by Alexandre Dumas
“My God!” he exclaimed, “thy vengeance is sometimes delayed, but only that it may fall the more effectually.”
after about 2 months. . i finally finished it. as i’ve mostly read YAs, and this is the first classic i’ve read, i have to admit that at first, the writing itself - while so detailed in explanation - was quite hard to digest. sometimes a sentence runs long enough, far enough, just to convey one thing - which is kinda beautiful and impressive at the same time. nonetheless, i enjoyed the writing!
while i personally felt that it was quite draggy in the middle, it’s still such a fun and enjoyable read. i actually didn’t know anything about this book, i just know from the synopsis that it’s about revenge - which was quite clear after the first few chapters of the book. but the theme itself is quite centered around faith and humanity. all in all, it’s been so long since i’ve felt satisfied finishing a book.
