Parts of this book feel like Andy Weir, where characters “science” themselves out of situations, making wild leaps of logic and reasoning while displaying little that makes it believable.

I’d read Beggars in Spain by Nancy Kress if you want a book on human genetic engineering and saving humanity or perhaps the Ender’s Shadow series, I liked both better.
