Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie

“men have the best of this world. i hope that it will not always be so.”

one thing i greatly appreciate about agatha christie and her writing is that she's no-nonsense about it; she doesn't include irrelevant stuff for the sake of expanding the narrative beyond the central mystery, which i think writers today really have got to step up to doing. i can't believe it's been so long since i've read one of her novels, but i'm glad that this was the one. the golden age of mystery is severely underrated i feel, at least in my generation (but then again, if this had been written today we would have gotten a gay storyline of ms. williams crushing hopelessly on caroline i feel)

to be honest, i have two simutaneous feelings about the fact that we got at least 10 different accounts of the murder—on the one hand, it was cool to see how all the little details of the narratives contradicted each other and added up to a final story revealing the murderer at the end, but at the same time it got incredibly tedious after a certain point, making the book feel like a LOT more than 277 pages.

one day i tell you, i'm going to solve the mystery before the big reveal!!
