I wanted to go to 4 stars, because I really like the Hickman-led era of the X-Books - and this was a stronger installment than Marauders or Excalibur or New Mutants, but there are some character problems.
X-Force is the mutant hit squad, doing he wetwork that is too grisly to take any kind of responsibility for. They're framed as the Krakoan CIA. We're very familiar with the title - once, it was the best X-Book being published (with Remender writing).
This time, however - we're supposed to buy Jean Grey being on that team, and even worse (somehow) Beast leading them. Beast killing the children of diplomats to wedge control and compliance. Guys, what?
Other than that - we have Forge using Krakoan technology, Sage being the Athena to Domino's Hercules, and Kid Omega getting decapitated and Wolverine chopped in half. Again - Guys, what?! - but in the good way :)
I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. I really appreciate the Hoopla app, and my library subscribing to it, because there's not a chance that I could read all the books in this line otherwise.
